PostSubject: Truthful Conversations   Mon 20 Feb 2012, 6:02 pm

After my feeble attempt to come out last Christmas, I mustered enough courage to talk to my mother. I wanted to give her the heads up; hence the following conversation ensued a few hours ago. Of course my forgetful memory has paraphrased the conversation.

Me: Hi.
Mom: Oh, daughter. I havenít seen you in awhile.

(Moment of silence. Mom was busy doing something, while I was giving out a serious and pensive aura.)

Me: Mom, there wouldnít be any issue just in case I find the person I want, right?
Mom: The person you want?
Me: Yeah. Iím turning 30 this year, so I would also like to settle down.
Mom: Your little sister and I were talking about this last night.
Me: I hope itís not about me.
Mom: No, it was about her. Do you have a boyfriend?
Me: No I donít. (Please insert here that you are gay, R)
Mom: Well, I should meet him first.
Me: That wonít be necessary, given the fact that there wonít be any issue right, whoever that person may be, right?
Mom: Your mother knows best.
Me: That may be true or not, but this is my life and my decision.
Mom: As long as you are happy and that person doesnít make you cry. Besides, is there a question in this?
Me: Of course not. I just wanted you to know.

Mom: Youíre just like me, anyway; youíll do whatever you please. Okay, I am glad you found someone to love.
Me: YeahÖ(looks down but wanted to smile)
Mom: On two conditions, 1. Youíre happy 2. (this section is omitted for confidentiality purposes)
Me: Mom! Itís not like Iím going to have any benefit on those two conditions. I just want your words of blessings.
Mom: (laughs) Okay, okay. As long as youíre happy daughter.
Me: Okay. (momentary sigh of relief)

I think mothers already 'know' but usually don't want to talk about it.

True Poi; especially if I have a sister who says outloud that she thinks I'm gay :-)
